Japanese government announces plan

The goal set by the Japanese government is to have 300,000 international students by 2020, thus doubling the number of foreign students within 10 years.

In developed non-English speaking countries, there are about 10% of foreign students. As there should be about 3,000,000 students in Japan by 2020, the aforementioned target is consistent with other countries, reaching 10% of foreign students as well.

The government has launched a campaign to promote studies in Japan (above picture is the logo) to reach its objective.

At a time when globalization is only starting and Japan is confronted to demographic problems, the Japanese government’s decision seems to make a lot of sense. It tends to show that the Japanese government has acknowledged the need to attract new immigrants.
